Focus of govt to promote literacy in State: Bhalla | | | EARLY TIMES report Jammu, Oct 12: Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla has asked the teaching fraternity to make concerted efforts to ensure better future for students who are the future builders of the nation. The Minister said this while addressing students, staff and parents at the annual day function of R M College of Education, Chowadhi in Sainik Colony, here today. Chairman of the College Rameshwar Mengi, Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides I D Soni, Associate Professor Department of Geography R P Sharma, Director CDC University of Jammu, Rajive Gupta, G Pathsarthy, principal P K Dhar besides students, parents, teaching and non-teaching staff members were present on the occasion. The students of the different classes presented a colorful cultural programme which was highly appreciated by the audience. Bhalla asked the teachers to provide quality education to the students so that they become good citizens of the country. He said such type of functions not only provided platform to the students in presenting their hidden talent, but also intimate them about the culture and heritage of the State. He asked the students to take part in co-curricular activities side by side academic education for their overall personality development. Listing the measures taken by the Government in facilitating the teachers and students’ fraternities, the Minister informed that the work on prestigious teachers’ Bhavan and state-of-the-art auditorium have been going on war-footing at Govt Girls’ High School Ghandinagar here at an estimated cost of Rs. 14 crore. He said the twin projects will facilitate teachers and students in conducting extra curricular activities in a systematic manner and provide accommodation to the teachers of far off areas visiting the winter capital for official purposes. Bhalla informed that 19000 sq ft area auditorium would be fully air-conditioned with facilities for projector room, toilet, dressing room and VIP room, adding on the completion of auditorium, the schools of Gandhi Nagar and its adjoining areas would arrange annual days, seminars, symposium, debating contests besides craft melas, and exhibitions etc on nominal fee there. The Minister said Government is making all out efforts to upgrade the educational infrastructure across the State by opening and upgrading scores of schools. He said the Central Government has recently introduced a scheme namely Rashtriya Madayamic Shiksha Abhiyan, under which Union Education Ministry has approved 69 schools in the State for their upgradation at a cost of Rs. 37 lakh each. He said aim of the Government is to promote literacy in every nook and corner of the State, adding that for this scores of schools were opened especially in remote and far-off areas. He asked the teachers to remain regular in schools and provide quality education to the students so that they become good citizen of the country. He said Government institutions have good infrastructure as compared to private schools adding the teachers of government schools are experienced and well trained.
