Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 12: Brick Kiln Owners Association (BKOA) have sought enhancement of the rates and stopped manufacturing bricks.
Addressing a press conference here today, they said that till the time government does not accept their demands, they would not manufacture bricks. They have claimed of having submitted a detailed break-up of the cost of input for the manufacturing of Bricks on January 2, 2011 to the concerned authorities for fixation of revised rates of Bricks for the year 2011-12.
They have further said that before the authorities could take a decision, coal India limited announced steep hike to the tune of 63 percent and 86 percent of coal in different collieries. Owners have maintained that coal is a major raw material which contributes to 50 percent cost of production and apart from the increase in the Coal prices, there is a huge increase in the wages of skilled and semi-skilled labour.
Owners have further stressed that license renewal fee has been increased five times while there has been spiraling increase in the cost of Diesel and other ingredients like clay, Sand, Tools and firewood. Brick Kiln owners have said that while the Administration in Jammu remained indecisive in the matter, rate of Rs. 4500 per thousand at Kiln Site was sanctioned by administration in Kashmir vide order No.DCA/Acctts/11-12/1042-52, dated 27.08.2011.
They said that same has not been accepted by the Brick Kiln owners in Kashmir. When no decision was taken by concerned authority, President Brick Kiln Association announced a rate of Rs. 4175 per thousand at the Kiln site, in a press conference which was held on April 21, 2011.
Owners said that they approached Divisional Commissioner Jammu and appealed for the rectification of rates. They maintained that till the rates are not finalized, Brick Kiln Owners have decided to close the units.
