Major administrative overhaul on cards | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 12: The State Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is planning a major overhaul in the administration in the wake of the surcharged atmosphere following the custodial death of a NC worker. Highly placed sources told Early Times the axe is likely to fall on many top IAS officers and almost all senior IAS officers at the levels of principal secretaries and commissioners/secretaries holding key positions are due likely to be shifted. "Those holding key assignments in the civil secretariat would be shuffled", sources close to the Chief Minister told Early Times. While reports about the State government looking for the replacement of the Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal are yet to be confirmed, authoritative sources confirm the disaster caused by the disclosure of the names, parentages and addresses of rape victims made by the state home department has been viewed by Omar Abdullah with 'utmost displeasure'. Sources said the State government is fixing responsibility in the home department and the law department as also the Chief Minister's office as to how did a serious thing like this happen at all. "The matter has assumed serious dimensions. Heads would have rolled already, but because of the political turmoil following the death of Haji Yusuf on 30th September, the changes got delayed", sources told Early Times. It is also indicated that the Chief Minister is not satisfied with the working of most administrative offices at the secretariat level and he is planning to give key assignments to those senior IAS officers who have till now been placed at 'innocuous postings'. The corridors in the civil secretariat are abuzz with rumours about almost all senior positions waiting to be shuffled. "Orders are likely to be issued after the Chief Minister's return from New Delhi," it is reliably learnt. |
