Mushtaq was involved in 30 civilian killings: GOC Victor Force | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct 13: The General Officer Commanding Victor Force, Major General Gurdeep Singh Thursday termed Hizb-ul-Mujihadeen commander Mushtaq Khan alias Mushtaq Janghi’s killing as a major success for security forces. Addressing a press conference at 5-Rashtriya Rifles Battalion headquarters in Ganderbal, Singh said, “Mushtaq was involved in 30 odd civilian killings and was active for more than a decade in Ganderbal district. Mushtaq was A+ category militant and was controlling the militancy in the district.” The GOC revealed that 6-8 militants were still active in Ganderbal district. “They are both local as well as foreign militants Mushtaq was their chief,” he added. Mushtaq was killed during a gunfight in the forest area of Gutli Bagh in Ganderbal on Wednesday with police and 5-RR. DIG Central Kashmir Range AG Mir said: “On a tip off police and 5 RR launched a search operation in the forest area of Gutlibagh. Two militants hiding in the area opened fire on the search party, which was retaliated ensuing a fierce encounter.” In the ensuing gunfight, he said, both militants were killed while another militant identified as Muzaffar was arrested. Mir said that Mushtaq was the longest surviving Kashmiri militant. Two AK 47 rifles, four AK magazines and one Chinese grenade was recovered from the encounter site, police said.
