HC asks govt to take action against illegal constructions | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct 13: The Double Bench of High Court has asked Chairman and Secretary of Srinagar Development Authority to take appropriate action in accordance with law against illegal encroachments and constructions in the city. The Double Bench which comprised of Chief Justice Justice F. M. Ibrahim Kalifulla and Justice Aatar passed the order in a PIL filed by ‘Youth Enlightenment J&K Forum’, an NGO. The HC after examining the PIL asked the petitioners to make specific representation before Chairman and Secretary of SDA, Chief Town Planner, Deputy Director Enforcement and inspectors of the concerned department, regarding the details of encroachments and illegal constructions. The Court also directed Chairman and Secretary of SDA to examine the issue and wherever such illegal encroachments are made or any illegal construction has been made to take appropriate action under law. “Such exercise shall be carried out by the official respondents within 12 weeks from the date of filing of the representation before them,” the Court ordered. Sources told KNS that 102 illegal buildings had been mentioned in the PIL. The buildings include private schools and colleges, hotels and automobile workshops. Advocates Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Mushtaq Ahmad Para, Zubair Ahmad Mir and Tahir Hussain appeared on behalf of petitioners.
