‘Kud’ dance by children selected for National Festival | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, October 13 : Balwant Thakur’s new initiative to revive the traditional performing arts of Jammu & Kashmir is showing tremendous results. A children group of Kud Dance created by him at his native village Bakkal in the district Reasi has been selected for being featured in the National Festival of traditional arts by children (Bal Sangam-2011).
This has happened for the first time that a children group of traditional performing arts from Jammu region has been selected to participate country’s most prestigious cultural event ‘BAL- SANGAM’. The festival is going to be held at Bhawalpur House, New Delhi from November 5 to November 12 and is organized by National School of Drama, New Delhi.
Giving details about this rarest achievement, Balwant Thakur said that this has been his endeavor that younger generation of the traditional artists take-up the practice and performance of their ancestral profession and achieve ultimate heights for these traditional arts.
‘Kud’ is a traditional ritualistic dance form which is performed to please the local deities.
The ‘Kud’ groups of children have been prepared by Hari Saran Cultural Centre, Bakkal under the able guidance of Krishan Singh. Ashok Thakur has been nominated by the National School of Drama to coordinate this programme. Hari Saran cultural centre has been created by Krishan Singh, Nambardar of Bakkal to promote and preserve the traditional performing arts of the Nagot hills of Jammu.
