Speaker discusses issue of allotment of residential plots to MLAs

Jammu, Dec 8
House Committee headed by Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly held its meeting here today and discussed the issue of allotment of residential plots to legislators at Jammu and Srinagar. The Committee observed that the Members who are not having their own houses at Srinagar and Jammu should be allotted Government plots in these two capital cities so that they could construct their residential houses and perform their duties more efficiently.
The Committee observed that most of the sitting MLAs of both the Houses are not having their own houses in capital cities with the result they are facing lot of difficulties on this account. It urged upon the Government to identify suitable sites for plots to be allotted to the Members.
Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Tariq Hamid Karra present in the meeting apprised the Committee about some hurdles with regard to acquisition of land and sought some more time to discuss the details with various departments.
In the meanwhile, a Sub-Committee was formed under the chairmanship of Minister of state for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Revenue, Mr. Prem Sagar Aziz with some members including Principal Secretary, Housing, Commissioner Secretary Law and Secretary Revenue. The committee will work out strategies to remove all bottlenecks in the process of this important assignment and will also recommend their observations at the earliest.
Speaker also discussed the issue of paucity of accommodation in the Assembly for conducting House Committee meetings and expansion of library blocks, construction of new building for Assembly at Srinagar, construction of more blocks for MLAs hostels at Srinagar and Jammu.
Finance Minister assured the Speaker that the matter would be dealt on priority. He said that it will involve huge funds and the issue needed to be discussed in the Cabinet meeting, he added.

Rather, Mr. Ajay Sadhotra, Mr. Harshdev Singh, Mr. Ashwani Kumar sharma, Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, Syed Bashir Ahmed, Mrs. Shanti Devi, Mr. Rashpal Singh, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia, Principal Secretary, Labour and
Employment, Mr. B. L. Nimesh, Commissioner/Secretary Law, Mr. A. H. Kochak, Secretary Revenue, Mr. Masood Samoon and Secretary Assembly Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Ganai.
