Anjuman condoles death of Jagjit Singh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 13: In a specially convened meeting of the Anjuman Farogh-e-Urdu J&K that was presided over by the president of the Anjuman Amin Banihali tributes were paid to the Gazal singer Jagjit Singh who after having fought for his life during the past 18 days breathed his last on 10th of this month due to brain haemorrhage at the age of 70 years. The renowned musician of the world was considered to be the one who after 1947 was responsible to restore the lost glory of Urdu gazals in the public. He had made the ghazal so popular that he had won hearts not only in India but abroad as well. He was appropriately called as the “Ghazal King” by his fans. The members of the Anjuman made a mention of various visits by Jagjit Singh in this city of temples where he was admired by his fans. Anjuman felt it sad that the singer was admitted in the hospital on 23rd September,2011 when his concert was planned with Ghulam Ali of Pakistan in Mumbai. He had been associated with many celebrated personalities of the Bollywood with whom he composed songs and rendered many ghazals for a number of films. To his credit are about 80 albums that had earned laurels from the ghazal lovers. His wife Chitra Singh is also a singer and the duo had enthralled many audiences in uncountable concerts. Anjuman expressed grief over this loss of a legend singer and prayed that may his souls rest in peace and may his wife and numerous fans have the courage to bear this loss.
