Open drain became cause of worry for commuters | Asif Iqbal Naik | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KISHTWAR, October 13 : : Open drain at bus stand Kishtwar became the cause of concern for daily commuters, as a result of which several people got injured in last so many years. This open drain which was constructed by GREF was left unattended after digging since the GREF authorities are still in dilemma over construction of this left over drain as they were not sure about the due width of the National Highway passing through Kishtwar Municipal Limits.
As per the GREF specification the required road width for the National Highway 1B is 72 feet, but due to some political obligations, District Administration as well as the GREF authorities were still inconclusive about the road width as some quarters suggested for 60 feet road width, since they believe that after acquiring 72 feet road width, the business establishment on both side of the National Highway will get vanished.
Meanwhile the matador, buses and minibuses association shows strong resentment against the GREF authorities as well as against the District Administration for taking the genuine demands of the public for granted.
The agitators lifted the road blockade after ADC Kishtwar Ghulam Nabi Balwan assured the public that District Administration will look into the matter at an earliest. SDPO Kishtwar Abrar Ahmed Chowdhary and SHO Kishtwar Mohammad Arif also reach the spot to pacified the agitating people, who later disbursed of peacefully after assurance from ADC Kishtwar.
