Cloth collection for donation drive organized by Bharti retail

JAMMU, October 13: Easyday and easyday Market stores, owned and operated by Bharti Retail, organized a cloth collection-for-donation drive that resulted in the collection of about 6000 kgs, comprising over 22,700 cloth items for underprivileged people across 10 states of India from September 1 to 15 ,2011.

The initiative was organized in association with GOONJ's 'Cloth for Work' project under which clothes collected and donated would be used to motivate the communities to improve and develop their surroundings such as repair their own roads, dig wells, clean their villages etc.

Over 2,300 employees of easyday stores and about 6,000 customers participated in the initiative. Company employees were also encouraged to do shramdaan (community labour) in the local community and collect clothes in return, as a reward.

The clothes collection-for-donation drive is part of Bharti Retail's "Store of the Community" initiative and reinforced the stores' commitment to serving the c0l1ullui1ity around U1C stores help less-privileged people live better lives. This initiative was organized in association with GOONJ, a well-known national NGO, and GATl - a leader in express cargo delivery. Clothes were collected and sent to GOONJ collection centres through GATl.

Commenting on the initiative, Andrew Levermore, Chief Operating Officer, Bharti Retail, said, "This initiative epitomizes our commitment to being Stores of the Community and help improve the lives of the less fortunate”.

The details of the 'Cloth Collection for Donation' initiative are as follows:

North India: 1802 employees and 3888 customers volunteered from 111 stores and collected 16,194 clothes, equivalent to 4207 kgs

South India: 188 employees and 256 customers volunteered from 3 stores and collected 1768 clothes, equivalent to 341.25 kgs

Central India: 335 employees and 1804 customers volunteered from 17 stores and collected 4835 clothes, equivalent to 1340 kgs

Easyday Market store and easyday store employees will continue to engage in initiatives to serve the community and the people of India.
