JMC continues drive against corruption | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 13: Under instructions from S.C. Sawhney, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu, the Health Officer of Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith team of Food Saftey Officers continued drive to check the quality of food items especially in view of forthcoming festivals of Karwa Chowth and Diwali and inspected about 90 food establishments like Sweets Shops / Workshops, Resturants / Dabhas, Fruit Juice Corners, Meat Shops, Tea Stalls, Cooked Food Reharies, Bakery Shops, Confectionary Shops, Paan Shop etc. in the areas of BC Road, Jewel Area, below Gumat, Kanji House, Gurudawara Sunder Singh Road, etc. During the inspection 14 defaulters were booked under the provisions of J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. An amount of Rs. 8700 was charged as fine from the defaulters. About 150 kgs of sub standard / unwholesome sweets, phenies, bakery products, confectionary, petha which were not fit for human consumption were also destroyed on spot. The team also destroyd 20 pieces of chipped crockery during the inspection of tea stalls. Further, all the food establishment owners were made aware about the enforcement of Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 in place of PFA Act, 1954 and to follow the guide lines regarding the hygienic conditions required to be satisfied as per new Act. They were also asked to strictly adhere to the rules laid down under Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and keep their premises neat and clean for ensuring supply of pure and good quality of food items to the customers and also discard the use of polythene carry bags. Besides this, while continuing the anti – encroachment drive to clear the footpaths / pavement parts of roadsides the Enforcement Staff led by Chief Enforcement Officer alongwith police force team undertook drive in the areas of Panjtirthi, Shalamar Road, Gumat, Gurudwara Sunder Singh Road, Vinayak Bazar etc. During the drive the team seized 2 truck loads of material / goods / articles like washing machine, pedestal fans, gysers, spare parts, helmets, counters, chairs,benches, stools, tables etc., which were kept by the shopkeepers / vendors by encroaching upon footpaths / pavements / road sides etc in these areas.
