10/13/2011 10:34:36 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 13: National Panthers Students’ Union today held a strong protest demonstration at Canal Road, Jammu against the communal incident at Bhaderwah, Doda District where four persons, including three college students, were injured in communal clashes triggered after a professor allegedly made a blasphemous comment during a college lecture in Doda district.
NPSU criticized the people responsible for the instigation of the students and further interference in the college matter.
Earlier the students of the GGM Science College boycotted their classes under the leadership of Amit Singh Bhau (president GGM Science College), Davinder Singh and Vikram Singh and gathered at the electronics block of GGM Science College.
In the shape of a rally they moved towards the main gate of the college where they were stopped by the police but the students forcibly came out on the canal road and blocked the road.
The students of the SPMR College of Commerce also boycotted their classes under the leadership of Mahesh Bakshi (general secy. of the College) and Mohd. Arif and in the shape of a rally they also joined the students of the GGM Science college who had blocked the ever busy canal road.
Addressing the gathering, Partap Singh Jamwal (provincial president, NPSU) said that the incident which took place in GDC Bhaderwah is very much unfortunate and should be strongly condemned by each and every individual.
He said that the professor at a degree college was delivering history lecture to the students of her class as per the chapter in the said subject but some miscreants alleged that she had passed a comment against a particular community while delivering a history lecture.
They took objection to it and misbehaved with her due to which students turned violent and later as news spread several people protested outside the college, he said, adding four persons were injured, two of them seriously, in the clashes.
The seriously injured - Shahid Hussain and Suresh Kumar - were moved to Jammu Medical College while two others - Kailash Bharti and Ajay Mahas - were admitted to a hospital here.
Police used tear gas shells and canes to control the mob. They also fired a few rounds in the air to dispel the crowd.
Jamwal said that a high level inquiry should be initiated to unfurl the reason behind the incident and the culprits behind the said incident should be dealt with ironic hands who tried to disturb the harmony and instigated the student community which led to communal clash between two sides.
He appealed to the District Development Commissioner of Doda Farooq Khan that the responsible persons should be put behind the bars so that no one could dare to provoke the student community in future.
He further demanded that proper arrangements of security should be made at GDC Bhaderwah to ensure the safety and security of the students of the said college.
