Attack on Prashant a warning for supporters of separatists
Plebiscite In Kashmir -- I

JAMMU, Oct 13: It was to happen and it did happen yesterday when the enraged three young men barged in the chamber of Prashant Bhushan and slapped him, pulled his spectacles, beat him and kicked him. Bhushan is a prominent member of Anna Hazare's team. Those who roughed up and beat Bhushan didn't bemoan what they did to him. They defended whatever they did and said they were ready to face the consequences. They asserted that they would do what they did to Bhushan again and again if they do not reform themselves. One of three young men has been arrested and, according to Union Home Minister, others would be arrested soon.
What had provoked these young men to take an extreme action against Bhushan was the latter's recent Varanasi suggestion that "let there be referendum in Kashmir and, if, after the referendum, it is found that the people of Kashmir (read Kashmiri Muslims) do not want to remain in India, they should be allowed to become independent of India." They should be allowed to secede was the upshot of his whole argument - argument which was provocative by any yardstick. Had he spoken such things in Pakistan or China or the United States, he would have been eliminated then and there. That such dubious persons roam about freely in India and preach what they preached at Varanasi constitute a sad reflection on those responsible for the unity and integrity of India.
However, to say this is not to endorse the methodology the three angry young nationalists adopted to express their anger. At the same, however, it is important to say that New Delhi is squarely responsible for the emergence of a situation that gives unbridled freedom to the likes of Bhushan to preach what they preach and vitiate the country's socio-political environment leading sometime to what happened yesterday in New Delhi, just opposite the Supreme Court of India. And, it was not for the first time that the young Indians reacted violently. It has been happening quite frequently since the UPA II came to power in May 2009. It happened last year in Chandigarh when Mirwaiz Umar Farooq tried to speak against India and in favour of Kashmir's independence. It happened in Kolkatta immediately thereafter and it happened in New Delhi, when Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Arundhati Roy, Barbara Rao and others of their ilk organized an anti-India event. It has happened in Jammu umpteen times.
What Bhushan said was what he always believed in, and continues to believe in. Don't forget that Bhushan, like Islamabad, Arundhati Roy, Gautam Navlakha, human rights associations like People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) and Kashmiri separatists of all varieties, not only stands for the Kashmir's separation from India but also for the Maoist terrorists. He is a great friend of Kashmiri separatists and he has not even once condemned the Pakistani-sponsored Kashmir-based terrorists for the crimes they have been committing since the late 1980s. Not even once. Rather, he has always supported and advocated their cause, separation from India on purely religious ground.
Besides, he is a great admirer of the Maoist terrorists and he is always in the forefront when it comes to defending the Maoist terrorists who take recourse to senseless brutalities to accomplish their evil designs. He always defend the dreaded Maoists/Naxalites whenever they kill unarmed innocent civilians; attack symbols of Indian authority; blast schools and hospitals; attack railway stations and hijack trains; kidnap innocent government officials and others; and indulge in hate and break-India activities. He never blames them; he holds the Indian State responsible for what they do to bloody and convulse the socio-political scene of India to further their break-India agenda. He has at no point of time raised even a little finger against the Maoist terrorists who have been trying to bring off a coup in the country and capture the Indian State. Not even once; not even once. (To be continued)
