| Jammu leaders silent, apparently fear govt victimization | | Unsolved 'murder mystery' of Haji Yousuf | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 13: Silence of Jammu based MLAs over the alleged custodial killing of a National Conference worker Haji Mohammed Yousuf is not only unfortunate but speaks in volumes about how these public representatives fear victimization at the hands of state government.
These MLAs which include Ashwani Sharma of Jammu State Morcha, Harshdev Singh of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party, JKNPP MLA Yashpal Kundal, seven MLAs expelled from BJP, who represent different assembly segments of Jammu region besides Pavitter Singh of Peoples Forum, Leela Karan Sharma, VHP Chief for J&K Ramakant Dubey, RSS stalwart Brig. Suchet Singh and JSM leader Varinder Gupta.
These leaders are seen making statements even over trivial issues but their silence over a serious issue of alleged custodial killing of an NC worker who was involved in cash-for-MLC scam. All these high profile leaders realize that act of the NC worker amounted to political corruption while his subsequent custodial death has left a number of questions unanswered.
They know that if Yousuf had lived on after coming out of the Chief Minister's residence, he would have spilled beans and raised a major political storm in the state. His words may have even cost national conference the government but he did not utter even a single word. His dead body was handed over to the family members from police hospital. All these Jammu leaders have read this story.
But, they are silent for reasons best to them. To begin with, Ashwani Kumar, the man who played an extremely important role during Amarnath Land row, has not even bothered to issue a handout condemning the killing of NC worker. He has maintained a discreet silence. Former Minister for Education and JKNPP leaders Harshdev Singh spoke to media in the laws of assembly but thereafter, he has remained silent.
Singh did talk about need for CBI probe but desisted from calling the killing grave and asking the Chief Minister to demit office till the probe, which is yet to begin formally is not over. One can understand that Singh has seen government harassing those who show the courage to take bull by horns. Observers maintain that Singh has to get issues of his constituency redressed and for that silence over this issue is seemingly mandatory.
Haji Yousuf has been buried and with him, the issue too should be buried is what these leaders seem to be telling commoners across the state.
Leave aside the Jammu based MLAs, Pavitter Singh of Peoples Forum, Leela Karan Sharma, VHP Chief for J&K Ramakant Dubey, RSS stalwart Brig. Suchet Singh and JSM leader Varinder Gupta have all seemingly decided not to make this an issue.
For these leaders, it seems that corruption is no issue. They have so far shown no interest in this murder mystery of extremely grave nature. Their silence is tantamount to weakening nationalist forces in Kashmir valley. Haji Yousuf was a nationalist who flew tricolor amid booming guns. His alleged custodial killing should have motivated the nationalists in Jammu to seek answers from the state government.
They should have raised their voice and forced the government not only to order a high level probe but ask Omar to relinquish the office he is holding till the time, probe is not over and he is not cleared of the charges against him. However, nothing such happened. They are still silent and would continue to remain so. |
