Justice seems a distant dream | NC worker's killing | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 13: After hogging the headlines for a week, National Conference worker, Syed Yusuf's death is no longer a news the protests of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) notwithstanding. And with the people as indifferent as they were on the September 29 when Yusuf was `killed', justice for the deceased NC worker's family seems a distant dream. The PDP registered protest today near its headquarters in the summer capital. An effigy of the government was `greeted' with a garland made from currency notes to depict the level of corruption that has been eating into the vitals of the beleaguered state. Yusuf's death caused a political storm in the Legislative assembly forcing the speaker to adjourn the house sine die. Noisy scenes and obscene gestures were witnessed in house for two consecutive days. The PDP has been demanding stepping down of the Chief Minister and his MoS Home to `ensure a free and fair 'probe into the killing. Although a key witness from Ganderbal has `helped' the NC top brass, the party's esteem has been lowered by the incident. The NC workers at the tehsil and block level are shocked. "We never expected such things from the progeny of Sher-e-Kashmir",a worker from down town Srinagar said. Yusuf was in the Chief Minister's residence on September 29. According to reports, some heated arguments were exchanged and Yusuf insisted on presence of former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah. He was later handed over to the Crime Branch where he died. |
