Have Interlocutors compiled their 'wish list'…..? | Nothing 'out of box', everything from 'within the box'.......! | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 13: The cat is finally out of the bag but it has sprung no surprise nor 'impressed' any quarters as yet. Entire contours of the Interlocutors' report which stands submitted to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram are not yet known, but the curiosity and some amount suspense with regard to recommendations has been punctured with an air of disappointment, at least in the political corridors in Kashmir where some hype and hope was pinned on it. On the face of what has come as 'highlights' of the report, it appears to all concerned that interlocutors have complied the 'wish list' for which there are no takers nor anyone seems to be too happy or satisfied as something 'new' which can make a difference in the present scenario. Kashmir based political corridors be those mainstream parties or separatist camp is completely dismissing the report as it lacks much of the political content and has dwelt more on economic content. Notwithstanding the fact that compilation of such recommendations has not been made in the air but is based on the year long exercise of their interactions with those whom they deemed appropriate and worth talking or listening. Still the points which emerge as main highlights have been written off, at least by the principle opposition party PDP. Other opposition parties like BJP and Panthers Party are silent, perhaps waiting for the report to be made public. Interestingly and ironically the ruling parties both NC and Congress have not made much of the comments or reaction, not even on submitting of report by the trio to Home Minister on Wednesday. Ruling NC which is again a Kashmir based political party too had lot many expectations on interlocutors laying thrust or attaching significance to their political slogan of Autonomy or restoration of pre -53 position in the state as means to address political dimensions of the Kashmir issue. But the report does not touch upon anything on their expected lines which perhaps explains their silence as well. The interlocutors have neither given any significance to Autonomy or Self Rule but focussed on what they have termed as meaningful autonomy by advocating devolution of more powers not only at the ground level implying Panchayats but also at the sub regional level. Though interlocutors at frequent intervals had been indicating whatever they would suggest would be in the ambit of Indian constitution but there have been some occasions when they have tried to create sort of impression, as to their report would suggest something 'out of box' as far as political dimensions are concerned . At the end of the day for those who raised expectations and were curious only find nothing is 'out of the box' , instead everything is 'from within the box' , implying there is nothing that can be seen as new or different than what already stands suggested or talked about. Is PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, therefore right in terming the report as 'wastage of time'. |
