Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 13: Even as Bhaderwah remained tense today after the yesterday's objectionable and unwelcome remarks on a particular religion by a woman lecturer of government degree college in the town, with both the communities observing a complete bandh, Doda deputy commissioner Farooq Ahmad Khan ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.
The bandh was complete and there was no business activity in the town. Educational institutions and government offices also remained closed. The day, however, passed off peacefully as no untoward incident was reported from anywhere. Police and CRPF had made tight security arrangements to deal with any situation.
Though the roads and streets wore a deserted look with the members of both communities preferring to stay indoors, crowds were seen at Jamia Masjid and Luxmi Narayan temple in the town.
The Jamia Masjid Imam announced from the mosque loud-speaker that a bandh would be observed Friday also, not only in Bhaderwah but also in Doda and Kishtwar towns. Later, an announcement in this regard was also made by the Imams of Doda and Kishtwar mosques.
Khan and SSP, Doda, Varinder Sharma are camping in Bhaderwah town since yesterday when a clash occured inside the college campus over the lecturer's alleged obnoxious remarks. Four persons of both sides were wounded in the clash. The situation was, however, stopped from worsening further due to the timely police intervention.
Khan and Sharma took a meeting of prominent persons of both sides in the afternoon and made an appeal to maintain peace and communal brotherhood in the town.
Official sources said the two sides also emphasised the need for restoration of peace to the town and demanded action against those who had created tension inside the campus, leading to a communal tension.
On their demand, the deputy commissioner ordered a magisterial probe into the alleged incident. The inquiry would be conducted by Bhaderwah SDM Shyam Vinod Meena.
CDPO, Doda, Shahida Praveen would assist him.
Khan said the inquiry officer had been asked to submit his report with 10 days. On the basis of his findings, action under law would be taken against the accused, he added.
When he was told that Imams of Doda and Kishtwar mosques too had given a call for bandh on Friday, the deputy commissioner said they perhaps did not know that a probe had been ordered on people's demand.
Khan and Sharma later told local scribes that no FIR had been registered so far against any one after the yesterday's clash at the campus. They made an appeal to the people not to believe rumours.
