Empower Panchayats for effective implementation of schemes: Hanjoora | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar October 14: Senior PDP leader Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjoora expressed his concern over the deliberate attempt of some politicians which are trying to weaken the Panchayats in the state. Almost four months have surpassed since the elections were successfully concluded, but till now no delegation of powers are being handed over to panchs and sarpanchs. In a press statement issued here today Ghulam Nabi said that on one hand the ruling government announces the empowerment of Panchayats but on the other hand some ruling party’s politicians are trying to suppress the panchs and sarpanchs for their personals gains. He said these opportunist politicians from the ruling government try every effort to repress the powers of Panchayats so that their ill intentions of corruption and mal practices could find an easy way. He emphasized that the Panchayats in the state should be given full rights to exercise their powers and every possible step should be taken to empower them. However he maintained that no political interference should be allowed in the functioning of Panchayats, otherwise the same democratic institution elected by mass voting would become crude joke and will result in serious fallout. The elected Panchs and Sarpanchs are the true and legitimate representatives of the people who have voted for them in overwhelmingly large numbers. He said by delaying tactics of not empowering the Panchayati Raj in the state means the ruling government don’t care for strengthening the values, traditions and culture of real democracy at the grass root level in the rural areas.
