Gupta for realistic review of the trade via LoC with Pakistan
10/14/2011 9:08:36 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 14: The former Union Minister, Chaman Lal Gupta has emphasized the need to have a realistic review of the trade via LoC with Pakistan and its impact and results of the past about the three years now.
Commenting upon the written reply provided to him during the recent Assembly Session, Prof. Gupta said the contents are eye opener as 48 persons have been found in misusing the trade across LOC and over Rs. 1 crore were diverted for funding the terrorists and separatists in Kashmir.
He said that this trade was started with the noble objective of to establish trade links and thus add to the confidence building measures but the results are quite intriguing.
For the trade it was given that the articles produced on both sides of the State would be exchanged under barter system but the fact remains that over 80 percent trade articles are being imported and exported, which are not the production of the State but are being brought by the traders from different parts of India and that of Pakistan as also frontier areas of Afghanistan.
No tax is levied on this trade. On the other hand a big duty tax is charged on these articles when imported and exported via Wagha and other border places. Thus the whole gambit is assuming the proportions of a big nexus, he added and questioned the men in authority to explain that how this trade has benefited the common man and what has been achieved out of this procedure.
Gupta said that the trade is good for all but in this case the situation demanded an explanation that what has been gained especially when there is no change in the aggressive and anti India designs of ISI of Pakistan, more so, when the training camps of ultras in PoK/PAK are still there and there is no let up in infiltration bids and funding of anti India activities including terrorism.
Gupta stressed for having a second look over the decisions taken so far and evolve policies which are realistic and not based upon make believe.
