PG, ASCOMS retain inter-college TT titles

JAMMU, Oct 14: The combined side of Post Graduate Departments of University of Jammu and Acharya Shrichander College of Medical Medical Sciences (ASCOMS) today retained the men and women’s titles respectively in the inter-college table tennis tournament, organised by GGM Science College here today.
In men’s final, PG Departments trounced fighting Mahant Bachiter Singh (MBS) College of Engineering and Technology 3-2. Leveled at 2-2, PG clinched the decider when Taresh Baru defeated Varinder Singh 3-1 (11-6, 9-11, 11-6, 11-9) to make it a 3-2 win.
The Results: Sandeep Khadotra bt Varinder Singh 11-1, 11-5 ,11-4; Taresh Baru lost to Gurvinder Singh by 7-11, 7-11, 8-11; Rohit Bhardwaj lost to Tanveer Singh by 1-11, 8-11, 6-11; Sandeep Khadotra bt Gurvinder Singh by 11-7, 14-12, 7-11,12-14,11-2; Taresh Baru bt Varinder Singh by 11-6, 9-11,11-6,11-9.
Earlier, in the women’s title clash, ASCOMS outplayed Government College for Women (GCW) Gandhi Nagar 3-1 to claim the trophy for second consecutive time.
State champion and captain of the team, Chandpreet Kour played a key role in ASCOMS win. She won both singles and reverse singles matches. The Results: Singles: Shagun Mahajan lost to Nitani Bakshi by 4-11,5-11,9-11; Chandpreet Kour bt Bhumica Jamwal by 11-7,11-6,11-8; Fiza Amin beat Divya Bhdgal by 11-5, 11-7, 11-7; Chandpreet bt Nitani Bakshi by 11-5, 4-11,6-11,11-6,11-7.
The finals were officiated by Anil Dutta and Amit Sharma under the guidance of Romesh Magotra.
In the prize distribution function, Principal of GGM Science College, Prof Satinder Singh was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also presented medals to the finalist teams.
He complimented the winners and other participating colleges for their competitive spirit and discipline.
Prominent among those present were Prof Suresh Sharma, Prof. Rakesh Gupta, HS Gill Sumnesh Sharma, Prof. DS Manhas, Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Physical Director of the host, Science College and Romesh Sharma.
