1 killed, 49 hurt in separate road mishaps

JAMMU, Oct 14: A motorcyclist was killed and seven others were wounded in two road accidents on the national highway at Samba this evening.
A motorcycle collided with a tempo-traveller after hitting another motocycle at Barian as a result of which one person lost his life while three others sustained injuries.
The dead was identified as Mantosh Kumar Sharma, son of Bahadur Sharma of Jullandhar, and the injured as Sheetal, Rinku and Darshana who were hospitalised.
Four persons were injured in a scooter-motorcycle collision at Bari Brahmana. Two of them were identified as Vinay Kumar and Balwant Raj who were admitted to the GMC hospital.
Cases in this connection were registered at the concerned police stations.
Meanwhile forty two persons, mostly students, were this morning wounded, two of them critically, after a bus in which they were travelling skidded off the road near Nowshera in Rajouri and fell into a gorge.
The ill-fated bus (JK02D/7499) was on its way from Rajpur Bhata to Nowshera town.
The incident occured at about 9.30 am.
Official sources said the bus was plying at a normal speed but it developed some technical snag on a sharp curve as a result of which its driver lost control over it and it fell into the roadside gorge.
A total of 42 passengers were travelling in it and all of them were injured. The rescue operation was started by sub-divisional magistrate, Nowshera, additional SP and ARTO, the sources added.
The injured were admitted to the sub-district hospital, Nowshera. Thirteen of them were discharged after first-aid while two of the seriously injured were referred to the GMC hospital here.
Those undergoing treatment at the GMC hospital were identified as Harpal Singh, a student of government boys higher secondary school, Nowshera, and Gurpreet Kour, a student of government girls higher secondary school, Nowshera.
Police had registered a case in this regard.
