Additional troops deployed on LOC to check militant ingress
10/15/2011 8:47:07 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 15 :-Additional companies of troops were being deployed at highly sensitive spots on the LOC in Jammu and Kashmir to check infiltration of militants into the state.
Official sources said that the decision on deploying additional troops on the border was taken after reports reached the Northern Command headquarters that more groups of militants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, had been brought on the launch pads across the LOC and the IB.
These reports said that fresh batches of militants had been brought from various training camps, that have been operating in the hinterlands of Pakistan and occupied Kashmir,to the launch pads across the LOC for sneaking into Jammu and Kashmir.
According to these reports, agencies across the border, including the Army and he ISI, are said to have been upset over the marked downward curve in the level of violence in Jammu and Kashmir during the last one year. These agencies believe that the main factor for it was decline in the manpower strength of the rebel groups, operating in the state.
Hence attempt is being made to push large groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir.
One report said that the security forces, deployed in Jammu and Kashmir, have been directed to intensify their counter insurgency operations so that militants were not in a position to forge links with Punjab militants and Maoists. In this connection sources referred to the seizure of a car at Ambala from which five kgs of high grade explosives and detonators had been recovered.
Preliminary inquiries have revealed that the car, with high explosives, had started from Jammu and the explosive material was to be smuggled into Delhi for triggering bomb explosions during Diwali celebrations.
Troops have been told to ensure zero level infiltration from across the LOC and the IB because agencies across the border will make utmost efforts for helping militants to cross into Jammu and Kashmir before the border routes got buried under snow.
Sources said that next two months were crucial for halting ingress
