Court frames corruption charges against two in purchase of spurious medicines | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, October-15 (JNF):- Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu Pawan Dev Kotwal in the much publicized purchase of spurious medicines in the year 1992 has framed charges against the then Assistant District Medical Officer Budgam and Physician Specialist Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu who were member of the purchase committee along with the then Director for purchase of spurious medicines by approving the tenders in favour of an unauthorized firm. The charges were framed u/s 420/467/468/120-B RPC and 5(1) (d) r/w section 5(2) PC Act 2006. Allegations against the accused say the then Director Indian System of Medicines J&K Dr. Tahir Mufti in the year 1992 ex-officio chairman of Central Purchase Committee constituted by Govt for purchase of medicines along with the other accused member of the Committee hatched a conspiracy with accused No 6 supplier. Mohd Ali against whom proceedings u/s 512 CrPC were initiated whereas one of the accused Dr. Jagdish Chander has died. The court observed that the other accused abused their official position for pecuniary benefit and approved the tender of PAN Pharmaceutical and consequently supply order was placed without obtaining authority letter of manufacturer which led to supply of spurious medicines. After completion of the investigations, challan was presented in the Court Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu and Court framed charges against two accused.
