| Malhotra assumes charge as chairman LC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 15: MLC Amrit Malhotra, who has been appointed as chairman Legislative Council, assumed the charge of chair here today.
Mr. Malhotra is a renowned advocate and one of the founder member of Congress in the State. He is senior Vice-president of JKPCC and member AICC. He is law graduate from Delhi University and one of the defense counsels in the famous ‘Kashmir conspiracy case’. This is his 2nd term as MLC. He is one of the main votaries of decentralization of powers and has contributed immensely in launching and strengthening Panchayat Raj in J&K.
Mr. Malhotra is a man of literary tastes and has been working relentlessly for promotion of Urdu language in the state. He was also a member of a committee constituted to rewrite ‘Naya Kashmir’ document under the chairmanship of G M Sadiq in 1968-69.
After assuming the charge, Mr. Malhotra met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and President, JKPCC Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz.
