Eminent psychologist delivers extension lecture on personal management for effective teaching | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 15: MIER College of Education organized an extension lecture on the theme ‘Personal Management for Effective Teaching’ in collaboration with the PG Department of Psychology, University of Jammu as part of its ongoing lecture series. Sarada S. Amma, an eminent psychologist of international repute was invited to deliver the extension lecture, which was attended, by all the faculty and students of the MIER college of Education. Renu Gupta, director MIER group of institutions chaired the session while Arti Bakshi, head PG Deptt. of Psychology, University of Jammu was the guest of honour. Others present on the occasion were Adit Gupta joint director MIER, Annie Koul HOD B.Ed Department, B. L. Raina H.O.D. P.G. Department of Education, Rajendra Praveen HOD B.Ed Spl. Edu., Surinder Kaur, Controller Examinations and other faculty members of M.Ed. and B.Ed. departments. Adit Gupta, while welcoming the guest speaker highlighted the contribution of Sarada in the field of education and psychology. He introduced the distinguished speaker who happens to be a renowned consultant clinical psychologist. She holds a triple masters degree in Economics, Management, and Psychology. Her M.S. in Clinical Psychology was from California State University, USA and Ph.D. in stress management. She has been a former UN resource person for SAARC nations, and has presented more than 100 papers in the areas of psychology and human resource management in international seminars and conferences. Author of the widely appreciated book ‘Scarlet daughters of South Asia’, she is a recipient of leadership award from California University, USA and Marjorie Hefter Stern Scholarship from the California state University. Sarada deliberated upon the significance of personal management for becoming an effective teacher. She further explained the qualities of a good teacher, which include conceptualizing skills, presentation skills and relationship skills. She illustrated her ideas by giving examples from everyday life. She said that a teacher should possess, above all knowledge of the subject and the necessary management skills to be effective teacher. A lively interaction followed in which students Sarada answered queries in a succinct manner. She charged the students with her motivational words and urged them to love students and have passion for the teaching profession. In her address, Renu Gupta said that Sarada Amma embodies the role of a mentor in the educational circles. She further remarked that in the present scenario where it is not just teaching but multitasking with administration, training and research a teacher requires personal management more than ever.
