J&K police to organise Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range Sports Festival 2011 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, OCTOBER 15- The Jammu and Kashmir Police department is organizing 3- day Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range Sports Festival 2011 starting from October 17, 2011 to mark the National Police Day being observed across the country on October 21. Giving details about the sports event, the DIG Jammu-Kathua Range Mr. Farooq Khan told to a press conference here today that about 1200 sportsmen and women are expected to take part in the sports festival which would witness competitions in the games like Kabaddi, Volleyball, Kho Kho, Indian Style Wrestling and various other games. DIG Khan said that the event would mostly witness competitions in games played in rural areas and as many as 20 teams from various blocks of the three districts would participate in the event. The sports event, he said, is being held under the Civic Action Programme of Police which primarily aims at developing friendly and cordial relations between police and public. He said that the sports event would be inaugurated by the Director General of Police Jammu and Kashmir Mr Kuldeep Khuda. Maintaining that the winners of the games , particularly those from the Indian Style wrestling would be conferred titles and prizes, Mr Khan said the sports festival aims at encouraging the talented youth of the area. He said that in the wrestling competitions, the winner of light weight bout would be conferred with the title of ‘Jammu Kumar’, the middle weight as ‘Jammu Kesari’ and the winner of the Heavy weight wrestling would be given the title of Rustam-e-Jammu. Joint Director Information Jammu Mr. Soujanya Sharma and SSP Jammu Mr. Anand Jain were also present on the occasion.
