Anna snubs Prashant, says J&K integral prt of India | Plebiscite In Kashmir | | Neha JAMMU, Oct 15: Social activist Anna Hazare, who has unleashed an epoch-making crusade against corruption and virtually brought the arrogant and insensitive Congress-led UPA Government to his knees, has done well to castigate ardent supporter of the Maoist terrorists and protagonist of plebiscite in Kashmir to find if the Kashmiri Muslims want to remain in India or want to go out of it to enjoy independent status, Prashant Bhushan, and declared that Jammu and Kashmir was, is and shall remain an integral part of India and that he would make any sacrifice for the national cause in Kashmir. "Prashant Bhushan's statement (on Kashmir) is not the views of the team. He has never asked the team. These are his personal views. The team is not responsible for the comments. We are not in agreement with him. Kashmir is an integral part of the country and it will remain so and we will have to do whatever we have to ensure this. This mindless argument on the issue should stop. The points he has made are not good. We will decide in future whether we will keep him or not…Kashmir is an integral part of the country and he would do whatever he could do for the state. Bhushan should seek permission for airing views on behalf of the team. We didn't like this (statement). It is not our view," he, inter-alia, said while distancing himself and his association, India Against Corruption (IAC), from the Prashant Bhushan's outrageous and seditious views. Significantly, the Anna's team yesterday held an emergency meeting at Noida and adopted a resolution reiterating what Anna said at his native village in Maharashtra. The resolution stated in unambiguous terms that Jammu and Kashmir, like other states, is an integral part of India and that whatever Prashant said regarding Jammu and Kashmir were his personal views. Paradoxically, Prashant Bhushan's father and former Union Law Minister Shanti Bhushan, who only a day before had shamelessly endorsed his son's stand on Jammu and Kashmir, also attended the Noida meeting that adopted the said resolution. That Shanti Bhushan supported the said resolution on Jammu and Kashmir speaks for itself and indicates the nature of impact of the outraged nation on Anna and the team Anna. It is a different story that Arvind Kejriwal also accused certain "vested interests of hatching a conspiracy" against those involved in the crusade against corruption. One can agree with Kejriwal when he talks of conspiracy because the Anna's crusade against corruption has rattled, frustrated and frightened the corrupt political class, the corrupt bureaucracy and the corrupt corporate houses. One can also agree with him when he says that the vested interests have unleashed a vilification campaign against the Anna team in order to deflect the people's attention away from the real issue. However, it would have been better, had he also taken cognizance of the fact that it was Prashant Bhushan who gave the cause; who provoked many by airing patently anti-India views. One can say with confidence that it was Prashant Bhushan who misused the Anna platform for advocating the cause of the Kashmiri secessionists and created a situation that led to what happened on October 12 just opposite the Supreme Court and on October 13 within the premises of Patiala House. It was Prashant, and not those who took the law of the land into their own hands to teach Prashant a lesson, who can be legitimately accused of hatching a conspiracy against Anna and his India Against Corruption to divert the people's attention away from the real issue that has stirred the whole nation and alarmed the Union Government and those who were, and are being, benefited by the corrupt regime. The Anna's timely intervention followed by the adoption of a resolution on Jammu and Kashmir would go a long way in salvaging the situation. Had he not intervened on time and not undertaken damage-control exercise, things today would have been altogether different and his movement against corruption would have been weakened. However, to say all this is not to suggest that Anna has controlled the damage. No, it is not the case. The association of Prashant and others of his ilk, including Medha Patekar and Sazia Malik, has undoubtedly dented the image of Anna. Anna needs to appreciate this aspect in the larger interest and the best course for him would be to dissociate himself from the likes of Prashant Bhushan. He has no other alternative left. You cannot champion the national cause with the known anti-national elements on your his platform. |
