| Why Engineer Rashid champions all causes except NC worker's death? | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 15: Independent MLA from Langate, Engineer Rashid has been a champion of many causes. He championed the cause of Afzal Guru's clemency when he moved a resolution in the state legislative assembly during its last session.
Engineer Rashid has also staged a protest against the manhandling of supreme court advocate Prashant Bhushan. The MLA from Langate most vocally protected the comments made by Prashant Bhushan on Kashmir. Simultaneous with his defence for Prashant Bhushan, Engineer Rashid has now come out openly against Anna Hazare for his comments on Jammu and Kashmir being an integral part of India.
Engineer Rashid has always been a champion of lost causes. Nobody can deny Engineer Rashid the right to voice his feelings and sentiments. As long as his protests remain peaceful and he takes recourse to lawful means of agitation, his right to say what he says must be supported by every right thinking citizen.
Yet, what is most surprising is the fact that Engineer Rashid has maintained a cool indifference towards the death of the NC worker, Haji Mohammad Yusuf who died in police custody on 30th September in Srinagar city.
Whatever might be the real cause of Yusuf's death in custody there is no doubt that a human being died under mysterious circumstances and still the champion of all lost causes, Engineer Rashid has not made a statement on this death! At least nothing has been heard from Engineer Rashid on Yusuf's death in custody.
Doesn't a person who left his home in the fittest of health, but was sent back in a coffin deserve a statement from someone like Engineer Rashid who otherwise champions causes of all persons where justice appears to have failed the victim? Is the MLA's silence because of his belief that there was no foul play in the NC worker's death? If he believes like that, Engineer Rashid must come out publicly, as has been his habit, with his understanding of the actual circumstances those led to the NC worker's death. |
