| Members of team Anna dissociate from Bhushan's views | | | It seems that the success of team Anna which it secured in rattling and rocking the Congress led UPA Government,when it launched the movement against corruption, is being frittered away by not any external agency but by the lack of coordination among the members.Prior to the triggering of a major political controversy raised by Prashant Bhushan,a member of team Anna,reports had started appearing in the print media that there were cracks in the team.Despite strong denial one could discern lack of unanimity of views among the top members of the team.Anna Hazare had been kept engaged in exchange of letters and views by a senior Congress leader,Digvijay Singh.When he fired the first salvo against Anna for his close proximity with the RSS Anna had no other alternative but to announce that the RSS leaders and activists had not met him during his fast in New Delhi in August last.Anna Hazare seemed to have adopted a highly defensive stance while denying any link with the RSS and the BJP as if the two organisations were untouchables.
In fact it was Digvijay Singh's digs that created a situation in which Anna may not be able to get direct or indirect support from the RSS and the BJP.And it was the real purpose of Singh to create a wedge between Anna Hazare and the saffron brigade that was needed to restrict Anna in his scheme of emerging an undisputed leader.However,till date Digvijay Singh could not achieve his goal.And if there is some erosion in team Anna it is the result of lack of unity among its policy makers.But the worst hit the team Anna received was not from Digvijay Singh but from Prashant Bhushan,a senior member of the team.His utterances on the Kashmir issue forced Anna hazare and Kiran Bedi to disassociate from Bhushan's statement.Both Anna and Kiran Bedi had no other option but to announce that what Bhushan had st ated was his personal opinion.Both of them said that Bhushan's statement had no support from the team because he had neither discussed it "with us" nor sought permission from "us."
And Anna announced that Kashmir's integration with India was final and it was not open for any plebiscite as had been advocated by Prashant Bhushan.Bhushan had gone a step ahead when he had stated in case Government failed to cultivate people in Kashmir by withdrawing troops and the AFSPA a plebiscite, under the UN supervision, be held and allow the people to go away from India if they wish so.It was natural for Anna and his associates to distance themselves from Bhushan's stand.They had to it after realising the gravity of the matter when Bhushan was manhandled in his office chambers and other supporters of team Anna were beaten to pulp by a group of Hindu fundamentalists outside the Patiala House. Right from August,when Anna Hazare launched his movement against corruption he had become a hero attracting praise from Washington and from members of the civil society in Pakistan.Hence members of team Anna need to walk on a razor's edge lest they should fall and falter before the race begins.
