Amarnath yatra 2012: J&K Guv for advance planning | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra has asked all the agencies to plan in advance the necessary arrangements for the next year’s annual Amarnath yatra.
There was a need for advance planning to put in place all the required arrangements well in time for ensuring greater comfort of the yatris alongside ensuring effective management of the pilgrimage, Vohra said at a meeting here yesterday.
Vohra emphasised the importance of checking registration status of the pilgrims before permitting them to proceed to the base camps to ensure against avoidable difficulties faced by them.
The Governor, who is also Chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, had convened a meeting of top officials including State Home Secretary B R Sharma and DGP Kuldeep Khoda.
Several important issues relating to the management of pilgrimage to the cave shrine of Amarnath were discussed at the meeting, an official spokesman said.
He said issues like improvement of track conditions, sanitation infrastructure and improved weather forecasting methods were discussed.
The spokesman said threadbare discussions were held on how to effectively manage the flow of pilgrims across the check barriers at Chandanwari and Domel along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes respectively.
"Strengthening of access control systems at all the camp locations and the need for enhancing awareness of the Board’s yatra advisories, particularly those relating to undergoing a medical checkup were also discussed," he added.
