| Carve out parks to provide ample lung places: Azad | | Siraj Bagh emerging as World’s largest tulip garden | |
Jammu, Dec 21 While acknowledging well planned and hard work executed at various levels by the officers and officials of Floriculture Department for revival of world renowned gardens in the state, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said that secret behind beauty of the paradise lies in these gardens and flowers which bloom with full fragrance in these gardens. This was said by the Chief Minister while reviewing the functioning of the Floriculture Department here. Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Anil Goswami and Director Floriculture K. K. Sharma besides all district and tehsil level officers of the department attended the meeting. While reviewing the function Chief Minister was informed that Siraj Bagh is now emerging as one of the largest tulip garden in the world where 2.50 lakh tulips will bloom during coming spring. Principal Secretary to Chief Minister who is also Principal Secretary of Floriculture Department gave a presentation of all gardens and parks spread in various nooks and corners of the state. The meeting was informed that during last one year various steps have been taken to stop the encroachment around the parks and full-fledged drive was launched to maintain all the parks and gardens in a better and presentable manner. Chief Minister was informed that as a result of record arrival of tourists during April, May and June this year revenue of Rs. 75 lakh was realized in the shape of tickets by the department. Chief Minister advised concerned officers to categorize the parks in A, B and C category for their maintenance and beautification and said that the rate of tickets should be enhanced from Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 for entries as per the categories. He also advised the department that they should ensure supply of Chinar saplings to all government high and higher secondary schools and ensure their plantation from 21st March 2007. He said that he has already advised school authorities to plant saplings of Chinar and other trees species in their school premises so that new generation is able to develop love with the nature while studying in these schools. He was informed by Chinar experts that in various parts of Jammu region Chinar trees have started growing. Chief Minister advised the concerned authorities that all new areas should be identified for the better growth of Chinar which symbolizes great civilization of Jammu and Kashmir state. Mr. Azad was informed by the officers of the department that historical Shah-kul which was feeding water from Shalimar to Nishat garden has been encroached by unscrupulous elements during last several decades which has compelled Nishat Authorities to get polluted water of Dal Lake for operation of Nishat fountains and falls but they are giving foul smell. Chief Minister instructed that immediate drive should be launched for restoration of historical Shah-kul so that pure water again reached to Nishat garden through its original canal. Chief Minister appreciated re-establishment of new Zanana Park at Jammu and also proposed development of Zanana Park at Raj Bagh Srinagar. He said that all the parks should be further developed so that people find all kinds of entertainment in these parks. He emphasized in quality growth of flowers and other species. He said that floriculture officers should interact with the visiting tourists in their gardens in most amicable and friendly-manner to win their hearts. Chief Minister assured that release of required funds for development of gardens and parks but emphasized that the department should become self sustained by generating more revenues. He advised that private sector, entrepreneurs in dealing with production of flowers should be encouraged by the department so that the floriculture industry became one of the important sector of our economy. |
