EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Oct 16: JAMMU, Oct 16: Police investigation into the trainee SI Parneet Kour's mysterious death at police training academy (PTA), Udhampur, on August 21 last has been moving at snail's pace. She was found hanging from the ceiling fan hook of her room at PTA in the wee hours of August 21. However, even after nearly two months of the shocking incident, police have yet to question some trainee SIs.
"We have got the post-mortem report and its says Praneet died of hanging," SSP (Udhampur) Shakeel Beigh said.
The probe infact became slow after the post-mortem report was made available to police. The police focus was now on other aspects of the case to carry forward their investigation, he added.
"We want to carry forward our probe into the incident carefully so that no lacunae were left," Beigh asserted. Asked if all the suspects, or those who were close to the Parneet at PTA had been
questioned, he said two to three trainee PSIs were yet to be grilled.
It is surprising that police have yet not completed this part of their investigation even after nearly two months of the incident that has put a question mark on the safety of women officers at PTA.
In reply to another question, the SSP said several PSIs and some officers at PTA too had been questioned. After the incident, Praneet's mother Kulwant Kour had alleged that her daughter had been murdered at PTA.Kulwant, who on September 3 had called on senior police officers in Udhampur and PTA director, IGP Ashok Gupta, had demanded the registration of a case under section 302 of RPC.
Kulwant said Praneet was a fearless girl and she could not commit suicide. She said police must register a murder case in this regard and apprehend the accused at the earliest.
The wailing woman also emphasised the need for a high level probe into the incident. She said on August 20 night, Praneet had spoken to her at about 9.30 pm and later to her brother's wife. She was to come home at Gadigarh here on August 21.Kulwant said on hearing about Praneet's demise, when her brother and maternal uncle reached PTA on August 21 morning, they found the doors of her room broken.
"We have a strong feeling that she has been murdered by someone inside her room," she asserted.
NFIW's Tasleem Kousar said when she spoke to IGP Gupta to know from him what exactly happened on the day Praneet had died, the latter had not given satisfactory replies to her queries.
It was a matter of shame for PTA that women were unsafe there, she asserted.
