SRINAGAR,Oct 17 :
An internet cafe owner in the Old City here was arrested after one of his customer allegedly sent a mail about the killing of a police constable on Friday in Hazratbal area of the Srinagar city.
Javaid Ahmad Bhat, who runs Blazon cafe in Sakidaffer, according to police sources was picked soon after constable Sajjad Ahmad was killed.
They said, a mail was sent from the cafe to some other country pertaining to the killing of constable. The slain policeman was shot in his head from a point blank range by a militant, who was arrested yesterday.
“At around 5pm on Friday police cordoned the place around his shop and didn’t let anyone to come close,” said a shopkeeper wishing anonymity.
He said police searched Bhat's shop for about three hours. "Police carried search in his house also. After completing the search they took him into custody," he added.
“There were men from Jammu and Kashmir police along with a top officer, who conducted the searches," said a close relative of Bhat wishing anonymity.
The police, according to the shopkeeper also seized five laptops and computers during the search.
It is mandatory for a person, who runs an internet cafe, to note the details of people who use internet, but, Javaid had missed to make an entry of the person who entered last into his cafe on that day, said a police source.
His relative said Bhat forgot to make the entry as his daughter was ill. “12:15 AM last customer came, but, we didn’t mark him as his daughter was ill and we had to get medicines for her, so we kept a neighbour at the shop and left,” he said.
Next day, the Shopkeepers Union Sekidaffar went to local police station to ask about Bhat, but, they were asked that the case was being handled by Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh in uptown.
The Shopkeepers' Union were refused permission to enter the Ram Munshi Bagh Police station, Bhat's relative alleged.
“They said he would be released soon, but it has been three days and he still is not free,” he said.
Station House Officer Ram Munshi Bagh denied of having any information about Bhat's arrest.
