| Hizb militant killed in South Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR:Oct 17 :A militant of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfit was killed in a gun-battle with police and Rastriya Rifles in Pulwama district of South Kahsmir on Monday, police said here.
Sources said following information based on wireless intercepts, police and 53 Rashtriya Rifles launched a joint cordon-and-search operation at at Yachgoose Gujjarnad in Rajpora area in the district this afternoon.
They said that militants holed up in the village fired upon the joint team that was retaliated.
“One militant was killed in the ensuing gunfight which ended in the evening,” they said.
The slain militant has been identified as Javed Ahmad, a local, they said adding the rest of his group managed to flee.
