Congress committed for amendment in Panchyati Act: Soz | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Oct 17: Pradesh Congress Committee President and MP Prof. Saifuddin Soz Monday said that his party has resolved to make the coalition government agree to the proposal to amend the State’s Panchayti Raj Act and incorporate the provision of 73rd amendment of the Constitution of India. Speaking to a public gathering in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Soz said, “People should strengthen the Congress party in Kupwara for the fact that Congress is the best instrument of service to the people. Congress party would empower Panchyats but they should become essentially a source for promotion of development and serve best interests of the people.” On the occasion Soz urged Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla to take notice to the aspirations of the people of the area and among, other things, he should put up a proposal to the Cabinet for enhancement of salary in favour of Numberdars and Chowkidars. He also requested Bhalla to put a proposal to the Cabinet for grant of reasonable amount of money to be paid to Sarpanchs and panchs by way of sitting fee and TA/DA. Soz was accompanied by Bhalla, senior Vice Presidents, Mohammad Muzaffar Parray, Gulam Nabi Monga and other leaders of the party. Prof. Soz accepted the demands of Gushi area in respect of Hospital building, school building, improvement of Drinking water facilities, flood control around Kehmil Nallah, institution of Vety. Unit, sports field and on the spot recruit by police department and assured the people that he would help them in the fulfillment of these demands, as early as possible.
