Colourful start to BSF Inter-Frontier Games | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 17: The mega national event of Inter-Frontier Games of the Border Security Force (BSF) started in a colourful manner at the packed BSF Stadium, Paloura, here this afternoon. Though the competition in different events of wrestling, judo, gymnastics, weightlifting and boxing begun in the morning, the Games were formally declared open by the Inspector General of BSF, Ashok Kumar Jain amidst deafening sounds of fire-crackers. Soon after the march past by the participating contingents, the chief guest, in his inaugural address, assured the athletes of transparency in judgement by the officials so as to make the competition free and fair. Earlier, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of BSF, Ganshyam Sharma welcomed the distinguished gathering and participating athletes as also officials and managers at Jammu. He disclosed that about 940 athletes, representing 11 different Frontiers from all over the country, shall complete in five different events. The five-day Games shall conclude on October 21. Young students of BSF School presented colourful cultural programme on the tunes of popular numbers which mesmerized the gathering of participants, families of officers and jawans of the hosts Jammu Frontier.
First gold for Ranjit of Jammu
Ranjit Ram of host Jammu Frontier won first gold of the Games in weightlifting event. He defeated Basanta Singh of Gujarat Frontier in the final played in 56 kg weight category. Third place went to Mahender Sharma of Rajasthan. Earlier, preliminary rounds of the competition held in all the five events at different venues spread around the BSF Stadium.
