Sense of fear, insecurity among common masses of state: Mehbooba
10/17/2011 10:34:48 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
BILLAWAR (KATHUA), Oct 17: The common masses of the State are reeling under a sense of fear and insecurity during the last three years of present dispensation led by Omar Abdullah, observed Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti and added that instead of providing governance, the Chief Minister was more concerned over his survival.
This was stated by party chief Mehbooba Mufti while addressing an impressive public meeting at Billawar organized by general secretary of the party Thakur Balbir Singh.
“As the Chief Minister has been committing one after another blunders after repeated intervals, he has been spending most of his time in saving his chair during the last three years”, she said and added that Chief Minister has disconnected himself with the people.
Pointing towards rampant corruption, she said that it was unfortunate that corruption has been legalized in the State. She specially mentioned murder of Haji Yosuf and said that this incident has exposed both state government and ruling National Conference.
Mehbooba said that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scripted a new chapter of peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir and changed political discourse of the State through its visionary and pro-peace policies.
“Although we had just 16 members in the Assembly, our party had convinced successive governments at Delhi, through our convictions, to initiate some bold Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to restore lasting peace in this region”, she said. She further said PDP had entered into alliance with Congress by formulating a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) in which wishes of all people were incorporated and pro-peace agenda was given first priority.
She reminded that in 2002 when PDP-Congress government was formed the prime concern of the people was the security of life, property and honour which needed not just strong administrative measures to tackle but it involved changing a mind set.
PDP-Congress coalition had not only restored peace in the state but also created conducive atmosphere for accelerating developmental activities in the State.
“It is unfortunate that the present government has not failed to carry forward the peace process but it also wasted all the gains and once again the life and honour of ordinary citizen is endangered by a variety of sources”, she regretted.
