Did Late Haji Yousuf fix just two political deals? | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 17: Was Haji Yousuf such a trustworthy NC broker that even the representative of the Chief Minister in Ganderbal constituency and NC block, president Yusuf Bhat decided to trust Haji Yousuf with Rs. 85 lacs to become a minister? Was Haji Yousuf such a trustworthy fixer that his son and relatives claimed even Nasir Aslam Wani, the MOS (Home) owed his job to Haji Yousuf? Like many other mysteries, the mystery of Yousuf's political reach is still shrouded in haze. If somebody politically close to the Chief Minister decides to approach the party high command through Haji Yousuf, then it can reasonably be argued he was not privy to just two deals, one of getting Yusuf Bhat a minister's job and the other of getting Abdul Salam Rishi MLC berth. The people of the State have the right to know how many top slots in the political hierarchy owe their existence to the political maneuvering by late Haji Yousuf. If the man was able to get political berths at such senior levels then he must have also used his 'managerial skills' at other places. There has been talk of the late Haji Yousuf having managed scores of jobs in the educational department in Anantnag district. A senior officer of the department had dried his throat crying foul when it had come to light that those appointments had been made through the back door. Nobody listened to the officer and he was finally asked to keep quiet or be prepared to face the consequences. It is not possible that a political fixer would operate only in the political arena. Once somebody gets known as the man who fixes top slots in politics, his 'expertise' is in great demand in getting government jobs, managing transfers, promotions so on and so forth. It is only a matter of time before the beans start getting spilled in this case. People have the uncanny habit of making a clean breast of their most kept secrets sooner or later. It would hopefully not be long before people start coming out with 'balance sheets' of money having been paid and received either for a ministerial berth, a legislator's seat, a government job or an undue promotion. The ghost of Haji Yousuf would haunt the politics of J&K for long and those who benefitted through the dead man's 'skills' will continue to be chased by the dead man's ghost. |
