Family to move court for CBI probe | Yusuf killing row | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Oct 17: By ordering a judicial probe into National Conference (NC) worker, Syed Yusuf's death, the Chief Minister may have silenced the opposition for the time being but, reports from the family suggest the Chief Minister cannot have the last laugh. The deceased Yusuf's son Syed Talib while rejecting the probe ordered by the state government as a mere eyewash said the family intends to seek judicial intervention for a CIB probe into the `killing'. Talking to Early Times today, Talib said: "The mourning is still on. We have to perform several rites. As soon as we are free, we will prefer a petition in the High Court and seek a CIB probe into the killing." Yusuf was a staunch supporter of National Conference and defied militant threats in early 90s. He was very close to the Sheikh family. On September 29 he went to the Chief Minister's residence to discuss an alleged money deal. Reports said Yusuf insisted on former Chief Minister, Dr Farooq's presence which angered Omar. Yusuf was finally handed over to Crime Branch where he succumbed. Yusuf's alleged custodial death created a stir in the state. It was vehemently agitated in the Legislative Assembly and elsewhere. The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) also took to streets demanding resignation of the Chief Minister and his MoS, Nasir Aslam Wani. Yusuf's death, according to reports, also widened the wedge between Omar Farooq and his father Dr Farooq although the former Chief Minister publicly supported his son. |
