5 killed, 11 hurt as Tavera falls into gorge at Ramban | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 17: A Tavera fell off the national highway into a gorge at Kela Morh in Ramban after it was hit by a speeding minibus from behind, resulting in the death of five persons and injuries to 11 others. Police sources said a Tavera (5238/JK01Q) was on its way from Srinagar to Jammu when it was hit from behind by a speeding minibus (JK02AS/7850) at Kela Morh at about 8 am. After the collision, Tavera fell into the roadside gorge as a result of which three persons died on the spot while two others succumbed to their wounds later. Ten persons survived with multiple injuries, the sources added. Two of the dead were identified as Tavera driver Riaz Ahmad, son of Abdul Salim Zargar of Nowhatta, Srinagar, and Spnya Maity (13), daughter of Topas Maity of Madinapur, West Bengal. Identity of the other dead was yet to be known. Their bodies were kept in the mortuary of district hospital, Ramban, for identification. The injured were identified as Deep Acharya, son of Asma Acharya of Yadavpur, Kolkata, Shanker Halder, son of Dulal Halder of Souking South Pangna, Tulsi Dass Shah, son of Jatinder Shah of Yadavpur Kolkata, Asam Achraya, son of Puran Gopal of Yadavpur Kolkata, Prantha Rajan Sarkar, son of Pulin Behari, Kalpana Choudhary, wife of Anjan Choudhary, Barna Sen, son of Raja Sen, Topas Maity, son of Gopal Chander Maity, and Ratna Maity, wife of Topas Maity. Identity of two injured women was yet to be known. All the injured were admitted to the district hospital, Ramban. Five of them were referred to the GMC hospital here. |
