| Inter-college kabbadi tournament inaugurated | | | EARLY TIMES
Udhampur, Oct 18: An inter-college Kabaddi tournament organized by Govt. Degree College Udhampur was inaugurated here today by Balwant Singh Mankotia member legislative assembly.
Jagdish Mehra, district information officer Udhampur was the guest of honor on this occasion.
In his address the chief guest congratulated the College for organizing this event as a part of Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
He admired the participating teams for coming from all over Jammu province.
He said that GDC Udhampur has taken lead in organizing various extra-curricular activities and the principal and his team deserve appreciation”
Kabaddi is the indigenous sport of India and is very popular among the youth but it has not been encouraged to the extent as it should have been.
But such efforts of the educational institutions shall certainly boost this game,” he added. He also witnessed a match between Trikuta Degree College Jammu & SPMR College of Commerce Jammu.
Earlier the inaugural function started with the welcome address by the principal prof Nutan K. Resutra who outlined the objectives behind organizing this event.
“ Since there is a great deal of enthusiasm and potential in the students of this college regarding this sport so this tournament shall provide them an opportunity to display their talent and further chisel the fine sportspersons in them”, he added.
An oath for playing the game with a spirit of sportsmanship was administered by Kanav Sharma.
Tanveer was the commentator during both the matches.
Ravinder Tickoo , Rajesh Gupta , Udhay Bhano Kamal Kishore & Vijay Kumari are the organizers of the tournament.
The opening matches were played between the teams of Trikuta Degree College Jammu & SPMR College of Commerce Jammu and GDC Rajouri & GGM Science College Jammu .Trikuta Degree College Jammu beat SPMR College of Commerce Jammu by (34-31) whereas in another competition GDC Rajouri beat GGM Science College Jammu by (48-22).
GDC Hiranagar , GDC Thanamandi, GDC Poonch , GDC Khilotran & GDC Reasi got walk overs.
The matches were officiated by Pawan Kumar (referee) , Ajit Singh scorer, Naveen Sharma &.Sanjay Sharma, umpires, Rakesh Sawhney &.Romesh Sharma
