NC is losing ground to PDP’ | No takers for NC leaders claims in JK | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU OCT 10 : The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will come to know about real strength of National Conference (NC) during the next elections. This was stated by NC leader Sajjad Shaheen while addressing a group of Panches and Sarpanches who joined the NC here today. He said PDP was power hungry and had launched malicious campaign against NC in the garb of seeking an impartial probe into NC worker Sayed Yusuf’s death.
Sajjad said that National Conference was not only "a movement but a history in itself” and has rendered countless sacrifices for the absolute freedom of people of Jammu & Kashmir from autocratic rule.
Shaheen like rest of NC leaders needs to study the mood of the people especially in Kashmir where NC claims to have a strong base. Most of them believe they were better off during Dogra rule. There was no PSA, no Disturbed Area Act, no AFSPA, no TADA, no POTA, no custodial killings, no unmarked graves and no disappearances.
The claim that NC fought for freedom of the people has no takers in Jammu Kashmir. On the contrary when NC assumed power in 1947, hundreds of political workers were exiled. Newspapers were banned and journalists were persecuted.
And as far as his challenge of wiping out the PDP during next elections is concerned, he better need do some tangible work on the ground to improve his party’s image. NC is losing ground to PDP and Congress in the Valley. For the first time in state’s history, NC was forced to sit in opposition in 2002. This must serve as an eye opener to leaders like Shaheen.
