BJP's new trouble: workers parting ways in hordes | Many choosing to 'associate' with expelled leader….? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 18: Struggling hard to sustain and survive politically in the backdrop of its dented image on a host of fronts, the state unit of BJP is lately facing new trouble: its workers and even functionaries at various levels are parting ways with the party they remained associated with for decades. The worry for the leadership is people are not pulling out of party in small numbers but in hordes. At least that is what has been witnessed in a number of announcements made by those who quit during the past few days in and around Jammu. The party which until early this year was boasting high about its numbers in terms of MLAs in its fold may be putting up a bold and unfazed face in the political arean of the state, catching up the heat on ever alive political issues in the state, no matter for the sake of opposition being second largest opposition party, appears to be heading for one setback. Political observers have it to say quitting of party by the workers and some senior leaders almost around same time and in a same fashion can not be seen as isolated developments or as a matter of coincidence, these happening almost one after the other . Even though party leadership is looking at these developments not so big as to affect the state unit but the worrying factor remains many of thos who have quit or in the process of parting ways instead of joing any other rival party are getting associated with Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, senior leader who has been expelled from the party three months back over cross voting controversy. Even though Prof Gupta has not yet formed a separate political platform, yet those prefering to be by his side and in contact with him than to remain a part of BJP is something which the state unit of BJP must ponder over seriously. According to sources the reason of these workers to associate with Prof Gupta is that they still feel he is the old face of the party with whom masses still have faith and trust , perhaps more than the seniormost functionaries and leaders in the party itself at present. The fact also remains that Prof Gupta too has as of now declined to dissociate himself from the party name, notwithstanding he stands expelled officially from the BJP. Sources said there is a growing feeling and grouse nourished by workers at the ground level that the 'internal politics' has cost the state unit dearly and it is gradually affecting the morale of cadres at different levels of hierarchy. The politics at the uppermost level is eating away the spirit and eventually affecting those having ideological commitment to the core, sources said adding that there is a strong feeling that 'outsiders' (those having come from other parties or having joined party quite late than committed workers), are getting preferential treatment in terms of prompt allotment of vital designations and positions in the state unit. It is mainly this feeling workers feel demoralised and choose to remain in contact with Prof Gupta. |
