2 women killed, 8 hurt as cab falls in gorge | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Oct 19: Two women were today killed and eight others wounded after a Tata sumo cab carrying them skidded off the national highway at Karol near Ramban, about 150 km from here. The ill-fated cab (JK19/0772) was on its way from Jammu to Ramban. When it
reached Karol, 4 km short of Ramban town, its driver lost control over it as a result of
which it plunged into a 150 ft deep gorge. Two women lost their lives while eight others survived with critical injuries, police sources
said. The dead were identified as Shah Mali, wife of Abdul Ghani Najjar, and Zebu, wife of
Ghulam Ahmad. Both hailed from Gool. While Zebu succumbed to her injuries at the district hospital, Ramban, Mali died on the
spot, the sources added. Seven of the injured were identified as cab driver Shabir Ahmed, son of Abdul Gafoor
of Gool, Abdul Ghani (55), son of Abdullah of Gool, Shabir Ahmed, son of Abdul Gaffar
of Gundi Gagra, Riyaza Begum (35), wife of Makhan of Gool, her daughter Salma (2),
Gulab Begum (51), wife of Ahmed Din of Gool, and Mohibul Rehman (24), son of
Jamal Din of Gool. The identity of a 3-year-old girl was yet to be known. Five of the injured were airlifted
to the GMC hospital here following deterioration in their condition. The rescue operation was launched by Ramban police under the supervision of SP
(Ramban) Anil Magotra.
