130 Helicopter unit rescues injured civilians | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Oct 19:130 Helicopter Unit of Air Force Station Jammu was called upon for casualty evacuation of the civilians injured in a road accident in Ramban-Doda area. A Tata Sumo carrying nine passengers from Jammu to Gool Sangaldan met with an unfortunate accident on its way near Nihar Ramban in Doda district. The ill fated vehicle rolled down the road into a gorge near Nihar killing two passengers and injuring7 others. Out of the survivors, 5 passengers were critically injured and without timely casualty evacuation may have succumbed to their injuries. The Army and the local medical authorities brought the injured passengers to the nearest helipad at Chanderkot and were evacuated by helicopter for rendering immediate surgical care for the victims to prevent loss of life. Air Force Helicopter of 130 Helicopter Unit was called upon to render casualty evacuation of these passengers. The helicopter from Jammu got airborne to evacuate the passengers from the Chanderkot helipad near accident site. In spite of hilly terrain and lot of obstructions, the helicopter captained by Squadron Leader Indumeet Singh, co-pilot flight lieutenant Manu Vidyadharan, Flight Engineer WO Y C Shekhar and flight gunner WO Kakade landed successfully. Despite the fact that the helipad site is surrounded by lots of high tension cables and other obstructions in hilly terrain, the crew demonstrated highest standards of professionalism and were able to evacuate seven critically injured passengers of the ill fated vehicle. The Air Force administration provided all out support to the injured passengers after arrival at Jammu by providing additional ambulances for sending the injured to Jammu Medical College.
