| Western Command Army public School Principals’ meet held | | |  EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Oct 19: Two days’ Western Command annual meeting of principals of Army Public Schools started under the aegis of Army Public School Jammu Cantt at
Usman Officers Institute, Tiger Division Today.
The meeting was inaugurated with lighting of traditional lamp by the Principal of APS Jammu Cantt followed by others.
It was followed by the Welcome song by the students of Army Public School Jammu Cantt.
In his inaugural speech Maj Gen T P S Wariach VSM, GOC Tiger Division extended his warm welcome to Maj Gen B S Daulta PVSM, AVSM, MD Army Welfare Education Society and all Chairmen & Principals present there.
He affirmed his commitment to educational reforms and remedial measures to overcome grey areas in the functioning of Schools.
He said that provision of quality education to the wards of all ranks is the best form of welfare and we must maintain the highest standards of quality, transparency and accountability. Gen Waraich stressed on the progressive implementation of compact infrastructure, bolstering of technology in education to enhance the quality of education.
The GOC said that it is a matter of privilege that Army personnel have reposed their faith on AWES and entrusted their wards to us. He said that he was extremely delighted to observe that Army Schools are steadily heading in accomplishing the pedagogical standards laid down by AWES.
Col S K Koul director AWES HQ Western Command elaborated on various activities undertaken by AWES. He also gave comprehension analysis of results by Army Public Schools. In order to recognize the efforts of the schools in academic, HQ Western Command awards running trophy each year for the Academic excellence to the School which has done well in the CBSE board exams. This year the trophy was awarded to APS Noida.
The first session began with the discussion on the topic “Need to inculcate Moral Values in present day students in APSs and means to achieve the same”. Presentation given by the Principals Anshu Sahi APS Daula Kuan, Rajdeep APS Unchibasi and Arti
Patel APS Kandorori emphasizing that it is the duty of schools to foster ethical values amongst our young learners so that they emerge as responsible citizens of the country. MD AWES reacted on the discussion saying that the Principals and teachers to work towards instilling in students the virtues of tolerance, humanity and courage and thereby works towards the empowerment of the nation.
Subash Joshi, principal APS Beas elaborated the topic “School Education: A shift from teacher centric to students centric approach” through powerpoint presentation. During discussion it was observed that in a teacher centric class a student’s role becomes passive and the teacher is at the centre in the active role. All present in the meeting advocated students centre learning as it helps students achieve life long learning goals which can further enhance student’s motivation in the classroom.

AVSM, MD HQ AWES, Brig Pankaj Saxena, Dy GOC Tiger Division, Brig H P S Dhillon Dy MD HQ AWES, Col S K Koul, Dir AWES HQ, Col S S Rawat, Addl Dir AWES HQ 9 Corps, chairmen and principals of Army Public Schools Western Command.
