Govt sanctions Rs. 2 cr for treatment of Haemophilia sufferers
Chib Says steering committee to be constituted to monitor the cases

SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 19: Minister for Medical Education Mr. R S Chib on Wednesday said this year the government has sanctioned Rs. 2 crore, one crore each for Government Medical College, Jammu and Srinagar for the treatment of patients suffering from Hemophilia.
This was stated by the Minister while addressing on a one-day Conference-cum- Workshop clinics in Hemophilia at Government Medical College, Srinagar.
The Workshop was organized by Department of Hemophilia & Transfusion Medicine in collaboration with Society for Hemophilia Care India, Hemophilia Centre, Moulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and LNH, Government of NCT of Delhi.
Mr. Chib said the government will take every possible step for the treatment and care of hemophilia patients in the state. He said free of cost treatment will be provided to the hemophilia patients in the state for which adequate funds have been earmarked. The government will constitute a Steering Committee to monitor the cases of Hemophilia patients in the state. He said the enhancement of diagnostic facilities and trained manpower to deal effectively with the hemophilia patients is in the active consideration of the government.
The Minister complimented the organizers of conference and hoped that the participants would get benefitted from the deliberations of experts and utilize the experience for patient care.
Mr. Chib distributed identity cards among patients suffering from Haemophilia.
Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education Mr. G A Peerunderlined the need for creating awareness among general masses about this blood disorder, adding that implementation of action plan will also be a remedial measure. He said the NGOs should also come forward to help the persons suffering from the disorder.
Executive Director, Society for Haemophilia Care India, Dr. Vijay Koul said that the Society is focusing on awareness, advocacy and rehabilitation of the patients. He said Anti-Hemophilia medicines are made available free of cost in both the medical colleges.
Principal, GMC, Srinagar dwelt on the topic and stressed on the need for creation of infrastructure and provision of all facilities under one roof for the patients.
Giving detailed status of Hemophilia suffers Head, Department of Pathology, Hemophilia and Transfusion Medicines Dr. Ruby Reshi said that there are about 4 lakh Haemophilia sufferers across the world, of which 14,000 are in India out of which 123 registered cases are in J&K state.
Dr, A K Mittal, Dr. Meenakshi Sharma, Dr. Mustaq, Dr. Bilal and Dr. Naresh Kumar made presentation on clinical features of Hemophilia on occasion.
Among others, Heads of various departments, faculty members and students were present.
