Would NC lick its autonomy wounds if Geelani is offered unconditional dialogue?
10/20/2011 12:14:07 AM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 19: With media reports suggesting that the centre is mulling the idea of inviting Kashmiri separatist leaders to an unconditional dialogue, another storm is brewing for the NC-Congress coalition government in the State.
If the media reports turn out to be true, the credibility of the ruling NC would take a serious beating yet again. The NC's autonomy resolution was simply trashed by the centre even though the NC had the same passed by the State Legislature. Now there is talk of an offer of unconditional dialogue to the separatists. What legal right would a party hold to remain in power when its legally passed document was trashed and those challenging the very accession of the State with the country are invited for an unconditional dialogue?
Reacting to the media reports that the centre is seriously considering a dialogue offer to the separatists without any preconditions, Syed Ali ShahGeelani has said the offer would be debated by the Majlis-e-Shoura of his group. "We will sit and discuss when we receive the formal offer. Majlis-e-Shoura of both Hurriyat and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat will discuss it. But, we have not received any solid proposal yet. It is only in the media. Majlis-e-Shoura will see the contours of the offer and only then I will comment on it".Geelani has been quoted as saying by the local KNS news agency.
If such an offer is made to somebody who disputes the accession of the State with the country, Omar Abdullah's NC would not be able to continue in power simply licking its wounds on rejection of the autonomy proposals by the centre.
