Omar Abdullah should have been in jail if J&K had political accountability: Mehooba Mufti

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 19: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has said State Chief Minister Omar Abdullah should have been in jail if there was any political accountability in the State.
"There is a tragedy with Jammu and Kashmir that there is no accountability at political level in this state which leads to reversal of democratic processes and erosion of democratic institutions despite people of this state having reposed faith in the same time and again. Chief Minister Abdullah would have been in jail like former Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yeddyruppa if there would have been rule of law in Jammu and Kashmir", Mehbooba Mufti told a press conference here.
Mehbooba Mufti also said in the aftermath of Haji Yousuf killing the anti-corruption bodies in the state like State accountability commission and vigilance organization have lost their essence as they are otherwise also seen hankering after poor patwaris and clerks.
"As killing of Haji Yousuf case involves corruption at political level the State Accountability Commission should take a suo moto cognizance of this sensational case," she said. The probe announced by the government by a sitting judge of the high court is no where she asserted.
"Omar Abdullah is now just struggling to survive on day to day basis and he has outsourced the governance to bureaucracy and police. Present regime is most inefficient, insensitive and corrupt dispensation that the state has ever had. Misgovernance and trust deficit were identified as reasons for last year's unrest. It has only become worse since then Chief Minister is engaged in protecting his chair 24X7. In the process government is falling apart with all ministers running their departments as personal jageers. Hajji Yousuf's death deprived Omar Government of its last fig leaf. It took lid off the stinking nature of this government. If Haji had not died in unfortunate circumstances we might never have known about the dark realities of this government and National Conference family. What the people thought about them is now confirmed," the PDP president maintained in her statement.
"Yusuf of Ganderbal was Omar's constituency representative for three years, appointed through an order. How did he collect 85 lacs without knowledge of CM? And even paid the amount for a ministerial berth to Haji. That means Haji was closer to family even more than the constituency representative," she asserted.
She alleged jobs are again on sale. Contracts are on sale. State's resources are on sale for protecting power for the Abdullah family. NC has become a mafia. Land, money, arrests and releases at the behest of their workers, job fixing, everything is done by select party workers and the coterie patronized by chief minister. Visible progress only made in personal fortunes of those who are running this government.
"SAC should take sou moto cognizance of the chief minister's statements and happenings in the residence. This is political corruption at its worst. Whatever institutions NC touches are involved in corruption. State Assembly (BJP cross voting), Auqaf was on strike for more than a month against mismanagement and corruption, cricket association where crores have been withdrawn on self drawn cheques. Government of India funds are not utilized, or fraudulently spent. PMGSY funding has been stopped. NUURM is not implemented fully. ADB funding has also been suspended. PM's package is at snail's pace. MNREGA is a money minting exercise between ruling party workers and officials. J&K is facing the greatest crisis of governance. Mainstream in the state was always with its back to the wall. But it had the advantage of having better, presentable faces like Sheikh Abdullah, GM Sadiq Mir Qasin and Mufti Mohammad Saeed. That advantage is now gone as the CM's person is now identified with crime. Corruption has again been institutionalized at the CM's level something that was dismantled like many other bad practices during the previous coalition," the PDP president said.
