EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Oct 20:More than 600 students from different Higher Secondary Schools in valley fear the loss of one full academic year due to State Government’s lack of policy on Central Board of Secondary Education’s optional system of examination for 10th class.
The Jammu & Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has cancelled the admission of more than six hundred 11th class students who have passed their matriculation under CBSE pattern from Central Schools (Kendriya Vidyalyas) and Jawahar Navodya Vidyalyas.
The State Board has barred them from appearing in class XI examination scheduled to be held anytime in the month of November 2011.
While CBSE authorities argue that there is no justification for cancelling the admission of the students having passed their matriculation under the central board, the BOSE justifies its move saying that the students whose admissions have been cancelled have passed the 10th class under the central boards’ optional system of examination which is yet to be introduced by the state board.
The BOSE has issued an order to heads of all the higher secondary schools of the valley asking them to cancel the admission of all those 11th class students who have passed their previous class under the CBSE governed Kendriya Vidyalaya and Jawahar Navodya Vidyalya schools of the valley.
The students fear that their career might be marred if the Jammu and Kashmir government does not clear their candidature for Class XI exams.
The students said that they haven’t been informed by the authorities at the time of provisional admission. “They should have told us before giving provisional admission in April and now we are in a lurch.” said Shujaat Farhen.
Another student Munazah said that their future is in dark, since she can’t afford to go out for study and demanded that HRD ministry should intervene to redress the problem. The students demanded that the government should abandon the practice and must allow CBSE students to take the test this year.
The students alleged that they were informed at the eleventh hour which literally shut the doors for them to get enrolled in schools outside the state. They said that apart from few Kendriya Vidyalayas and private schools, all other institutes followed the NCERT syllabi. Not only the students are worried, but their parents were also concerned about the future of their wards. In order to press for the demands, these students along with their family members also held protest and blocked Srinagar-Kishtwar road in Anantnag District for hours together.
When approached Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Syed said that due to some problem, the Central Board officials from Delhi fails to reach Srinagar today. He said that now they fixed Saturday (October 22) as next date of meeting with these officials in which he along with officials of State Education Department will take lenient view over the issue.
Peerzada said that he is hopeful that government will manage to solve the issue and all the students will be allowed to sit in examination.
